Angela Merkel has not finished with Greece. Alexis Tsipras, in calling the anticipated elections, is using democracy in answer to the imposition of brutal liberalist measures which were made in return for the financial assistance his country needed. He is returning to his people to account for Syriza’s battle losses and solicit a new mandate to continue, in that unique situation, to fight the iron boot with which the German authorities, by proxy of international finance, crush the entire continent.
It is a matter of political response to European leaders who hope to box him in with the choice of “submit or resign”, they having launched upon an insidious coup d’état stirring up an intense propaganda campaign in the big media companies they influence. Their dream? Convince the people that, other than obedience, there is no path to salvation. The poll could well show that Athens in not defeated.
The support of the continent’s activists did not carry enough weight to deter the fundamentalist creditors during the interminable negotiations over recent months. But this struggle has pervaded public opinion and the rise of Jeremy Corbyn in the United Kingdom witnesses a swelling tide. The tide is surging and forces awake.
The festival of the Rose de Frangy bears witness to this. In a year, Arnaud Montebourg, who was once happy with the “Responsibility Pact” (a generous package of aid for businesses), joined this movement and, in choosing to invite the former Greek minister of finance, Yanis Varoufakis, left behind his passion for decorating. [A reference to his appointment as Vice Chairman of the supervisory board of the furniture chain, Habitat.] Some of his “friends” were not fooled. Whatever his guest’s opinion of the choice made by Alexis Tsipras and the Syriza majority, the surge of new forces attests that the debate is not closed.
This mobilisation will grow at the Festival of Humanity, notably with the European forum taking place in the concourse. La Courneuve will be the platform for those who will not resign themselves to leaving Europe in the hands of bankers
