Knowledge is power !? Or why Bulgarian Gate never happened

Translated Wednesday 14 June 2017, by Nicola Miguleuff

Perhaps, the world has not changed so much, but nevertheless it has become informational. So we can see the crisis of systematic analysis in science, in intelligence service and in politics. Those who are responsible for studying reality lose the ability to analyze adequately, the quality of management is falling down and forecasts do not come true. Science got confused in myths which were made by itself. Scientists cannot agree on single scientific lexicon, because for thousands of years, they invented so many empty notions, categories, and they understand them differently depending to what dogmas they stick to. The situation is not better in the intelligence services. As A. Fursov, analyst, and director of Science and Research Institution of systematic and strategic analysis, rightly pointed out that in the world where 95% of information is situated in open sources, intelligence service does not know how to work, as secrecy has always been its main principle. The system of identification of valuable information itself is in crisis, the criteria of estimation that were used in the past are not suitable in new conditions.

Information has become a consumer good as well as a weapon of manipulation. In the flows of senseless informational rubbish, it is very difficult to separate the sheep from the goats. There are fakes, bad snitch sheet, mass wiretaps of everybody – from a citizen to a president, account hackings and so on. Information is losing its value. “Many methods of the modern espionage arsenal will never give the unique information that was found out with the help of decoding of secret reports, or was given by ‘human sources’ such as Richard Sorge, bandsmen of the Red Orchestra, and the members of The Cambridge Spy Ring”, wrote K. K. Melnik. Today, the reliability of an information source himself often provokes doubt. It is necessary to demand the reference about his or her adequacy – by the way, it is good that there is not such reference; otherwise, it would be another pretext for speculation.

Modern analytical (scientific and intelligence) structures have gone down to the level of being servants to business. They have become Venetian merchants – the mercenaries of new century. The corporation-cartels can be compared with the Roman Empire. They use mercenaries at the periphery of the capitalistic empire in order to approve its right to control the resources, and to keep people under intellectual slavery. The leading French analyst, Konstantin K. Melnik, cautions about the dangers of the absence of ideological targets, and the voiding of analytical structures to the level of technical intelligence. He wrote in his book, Modern intelligence and espionage: “Economical intelligence and maintenance of companies’ security – being modern fashion – sink hopelessly in a toffee-nosed pathos of those who know neither the rules of the Big Game, nor the rules of economy at least the market one”.

In the West and now all over the world private intelligence agencies are in fashion, they are ready to extract any inside information in order for your business to be successful. American agencies Stratford, Rand corporation, Kroll Associates, European Stratpol, Eurocrise, Oxford analitica, and many others, compete with national intelligence service in the world, and they don’t care much about global, or national security. Strategic intelligence is not understood as the art of intellectual superiority in geopolitics, but as a method of making money. In Europe, and in the USA, a separate Master’s program – Business intelligence [1] – was introduced. This major teaches how to steal the secrets of one company for another.

It is a shame to admit, but Intelligence and Science have turned into businesses. The highest goal was security and the prosperity of states and nation; the intelligence and scientific research were conducted for its sake, but now this highest goal has lost its meaning. Economy must serve an ideology. However, business – “money for the sake of money” – has now become an ideology. There is a war of services. Corporations hire mercenaries – agents, and their goal is just to earn more money. These agents in their turn sometimes ruin the corporations themselves, as it was with mercenaries who robbed and burned Rome. At the same time, the interests of state and the people are left in the basket. Therefore, there are petty intrigues for the sake of the insane battle for resources.

Because of these intrigues, the antagonisms of the capitalistic system are strengthening. Organized criminal groups at different levels break the empire into small pieces. In order to create an illusion of inner stability, the capitalists attract “new blood”. Pieces of former social camps (Baltic countries and other former member of the Council for Mutual Economic Assistance) were integrated into the European Union and now they try to integrate the flows of migrants from Africa and Asia. But this blood is boiling up, and brings its own values. Who will put in order all of these streams and flows? Europeans practically cease to answer to the threats of national security. Maybe they fix, or monitor what is happening, but they do not react to what is shown and to what was fixed.

It has become more obvious through the scandal around little Bulgaria. They tried to put the flag of European democracy on the case with the Bulgarian wiretapping of diplomats, businessmen, and European Commissioner from 2009 up to 2013. They did it either to attract public attention to the problem of the lawlessness of officials in the former country of the Warsaw Pact, or to solve their problems with the help of Bulgaria, and establish a precedent of accusation of wiretapping of diplomats in the EU. In 2013, European Parliament even got down to investigate the Bulgarian scandal. The European Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs decided several times to continue investigation. European media even baptized this case “Bulgarian Watergate” [2]. However, my good friend – young Bulgarian politician Georgy Darelov, told that they did everything just for Parliament elections. They made a bit of noise and broke up. Indirectly, the Bulgarian Media wrote the same in May, 2013, that debates on the wiretapping affair were postponed, and they might be done after elections…The public knows nothing about the destiny of these debates. It is obvious that the crisis of subjectivity’s absence in the European Union is so deep, that even the news about the US’s wiretapping of the top officials of Germany and France didn’t cause any clear reaction. Of course, they just forgot about Bulgarians. “Bulgarian Watergate” ends with nothing.

By the way, Bulgarian Wiretapping continued in 2014 – 2016. Bulgarian investigating authorities even conducted a detailed investigation and formed an official 68-page report, but just one lawbreaker was conditionally accused, and only for a year. Of course, popular European Media actively kept silence about this precedent. However, the Bulgarian president spoke about it. He asked not to dramatize the situation. He hinted that Bulgarian Media liked to see the Gate everywhere. What can be done with the 68-page report where there are more than 50 offenses [3]? Don’t you know? Investigating authorities do not know, (at least Bulgarian ones try to appeal to public opinion), as does the European Parliament and others.

I wonder if those who understand that inaction, in relation to the case of the wiretapping of diplomats, will lead directly to the discretization of the basis of diplomacy itself. Those were the biggest scandals during the last century. And now? Mercenaries of big corporations ruin the old structures. What for, then, are all of these speculations with elections and the formation of a pseudo-stable world? Who will be the guarantor of security? With whom is it possible to work? What will be, if the civil society continues to do nothing and remains silent? The system will most likely crash down, loudly. There are open questions. Will it be even possible to restore the system? If yes, then what will be the amount of efforts for its restoration?

Everyone clearly understands that the customer and director of this whole neo-liberal circus are overseas, that is probably why Europeans cannot come to an agreement with one another to determine their position. All the while that they do not have a position, it is the ones who are bending over under the mythological masters overseas who are right. Much of this stooping is done voluntarily, and absolutely for free. In discussions with colleagues, we have come to understand that America does not impose, but forms such behavior through its cultural views. With respect to Europe, America formulated its relationship, and showed how it would like to be served, but in return Europe did not offer anything of its own. Therefore, the result is such a strange, almost uncontrollable situation.

What is clear is that if we do nothing, then soon Mickey Mouse or the second Pokémon will become President. The world will be ruled by those who create myths about dragons and fantasy in the style of Harry Potter.
